Hey guys, I will be taking a trip to Asia in June. My first stop will be in Shanghai for 144 hours of visa-free transit. I am actually going to work as well during this interim, so I am curious if anybody can suggest a place where you can park your laptop and possibly do a video conference call (I will be talking to people who work in my group remotely). I know there are quite a lot of coffee shops where I stay (Jing An district). I am just curious if anybody has any suggestions in terms of co-working places in Shanghai. Is there such a thing there?

You can do a Google search on co-working in Shanghai; there are plenty of companies that provide co-working and office space in Shanghai. Personally, I think Servcorp China is great, and Regus is also a good place to find your private office. If you don't want to spend that money, there are plenty of large coffee shops in Pu Dong district. In the morning during work days, they are essentially empty. I am pretty sure you can conduct video calls with your ear plugs on! I have seen people doing video calls at busy Starbucks. Nobody is going to bother you, only if you can manage the noise level. 😀

@DigitalNomad, Yeah, I did a Google search before. Some of these places are similar to what we have here in the US, have you rented a place like that in Shanghai? I'd like to hear your opinion on that. Also, those coffee shops sound interesting. My only concern is that I will be using a VPN to conduct those video calls. Is the wifi network reliable enough for me to do it?

VPN is not an issue, I mean unless you work on some sensitive data stuff, I wouldn't worry about it. I see you are going to stay in the Jing An area, which is in Puxi. It can be a bit of a problem if you have a meeting and need to get to the Pudong area during rush hour. I would try some of the coffee shops in the French Concession area, it's got some nice tree-lined avenues and cafes that are quite popular among expats.
